Hotel Indigo Caters to Guests and the Arts

Guest services at hotels don’t usually include art curation, but at Hotel Indigo, that is just the beginning of their involvement with local artists.

When visitors first arrive at the hotel, they are sure to notice the giant floral mural outside, created from a photograph by Robert Ryan of Fishers. On display for four years, Ryan’s winning image of purple flowers was captured at Ritchey Woods and is the winner in the hotel’s first mural contest in partnership with the Fishers Arts Council.

“People love the exterior mural,” says Kelly Tabeling, Hotel Indigo’s general manager. “They comment on it and love it, and for the community it is huge because it brings in some nice architecture as opposed to signs. It is a signature for this area.”

Once guests pass through the hotel doors, they are greeted with more original art in the lobby. By rotating works by local artists, the hotel hopes to expose people to all that Fishers has to offer.

“Our goal is to feature local artists who are up and coming or maybe students studying art,” Tabeling says. “Right now an employee who is an art major has works on display. We feature the art on a small wall and can change it out on any time.”

Artists hoping to get into the rotation need to contact Tabeling directly. In the future she hopes there will be a permanent partnership with the Arts Council.

“There is no true system yet when it comes to who is featured,” she says. “Right now we just hope to find the right fit.”

And while the works on display are for sale, it’s the exposure for the artists that Tabeling hopes achieve, as well as a continued relationship between the hotel and the community.

“We want to be very involved with community,” she says.
