Juggling careers‚ children‚ school activities and sports – and putting a balanced‚ delicious dinner on the table – is easier now for central Indiana families‚ thanks to time-saving meal preparation companies such as My Girlfriend’s Kitchen.
Amy Hruskoci and her husband‚ Rob‚ parents of three small children‚ opened the Fishers store in March 2006. Two young Utah mothers conceived the concept in 2003‚ and franchises are opening across the country.
Customers sign up for a two-hour assembly session‚ selecting from 14 menu items that change monthly. Within 24 to 48 hours‚ they then go to My Girlfriend’s Kitchen to put together their dishes. The meals‚ which can be frozen for later use‚ are cooked in the customer’s home kitchen.
“We are not a cooking class‚” Amy Hruskoci says. “The idea is we do all the menu planning‚ shopping‚ chopping‚ dicing‚ make sauces and organize the ingredients on a sandwich table. All you have to do is come in‚ read the instructions about how to assemble the dish‚ put it together and you’re done.
“We want everyone to have a good time‚” Hruskoci says. “We serve lemonade and iced tea‚ turn up the music a bit – it’s a fun‚ relaxed atmosphere.”
Up to 14 people can participate at a time‚ Hruskoci says. The items are packaged in portions to serve four-to-six people or two-to-three people. Six entrees cost $119 and a dozen are $199.
My Girlfriend’s Kitchen also offers pickup and delivery.
Menu selections have included Hearty Sportsman’s Stew‚ Rosemary’s Chicken Lasagna‚ My Dearest Turkey Chili and Apple Valley Pork Chops.
My Girlfriend’s Kitchen also features specials such as holiday appetizers and snacks for football season.
